Jørgensen Living in Mittenwald: A look behind the scenes of the renovation
The summer months of 2024 will be marked by an exciting project for Jørgensen Living. We have been commissioned to design the interior of ten vacation apartments and a café in the heart of Mittenwald. The opening is planned for late summer 2025 and we are already hard at work transforming the building and creating the perfect atmosphere. Here we give a first insight into the progress and planning of the project.
A historic building with lots of charm
The project starts with a total renovation of an old bakery building, located in the center of Mittenwald and offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Mittenwald, known for its picturesque alleyways and proximity to the Bavarian Alps, requires special attention to the choice of materials and design that both respects the tradition of the place and provides modern, comfortable living.
Close collaboration with the architect Filip Fichtel
Together with the architect Filip Fichtel, we placed particular emphasis on the floor plan in the first phase of the project. It was important to us that the vacation apartments should be both functional and cozy – each room should offer guests a personal, inviting atmosphere. This also included deciding how the building could be used optimally without jeopardizing its historical substance.
At the same time, we defined the overarching design direction. The aim was to create a harmonious combination of Scandinavian minimalism and rural charm. The style of the house will reflect the alpine mountain landscape on the one hand, but also integrate the clear, bright aesthetics of Nordic design on the other. Every detail will be coordinated so that the design achieves a uniform and calming effect.
Choice of materials and the right color palette
An important aspect of the planning phase was choosing the right materials. We took a lot of time to find the perfect combination of natural elements that would both respect the history of the building and create a modern, pleasant living experience.
The choice of windows, doors and flooring is crucial here. For the floor, we opted for light oak planks, which, in combination with dark wooden beams, create an elegant yet warm atmosphere. The walls are finished with textures that give the room depth and warmth while emphasizing the rustic character of the building.
For the exterior façade, we opted for natural color tones that blend harmoniously into the surroundings and at the same time interpret the building in a modern way.
Color and design in harmony with the surroundings
Another important aspect of the project was researching Mittenwald and its surroundings. It was important to me to develop a design that was in harmony with the local colors and the regional style. I not only took classic Alpine accents into account, but also integrated Mediterranean elements to create a unique atmosphere.
The result is a color palette that combines warm wood and earth tones with deep green, rich blue and terracotta red. These colors are reminiscent of the mountains, nature and at the same time Mediterranean influences, which lend the rooms a special lightness. This mix of Alpine and Mediterranean aesthetics is particularly evident in the café – a place that radiates comfort and relaxation.
The Scandinavian-style bathrooms and kitchens
For the bathrooms and kitchens, we also opted for a mix of Scandinavian design and regional elements. Dark wooden surfaces are used here in combination with light oak planks. In the bathroom in particular, we focus on sustainable design: the materials are selected both functionally and aesthetically to create a relaxing and harmonious atmosphere.
Thanks to detailed 3D visualization, we have now also further refined the bathroom planning. This three-dimensional representation allows us to think through every single aspect of the bathroom – from the tiles to the furniture – and ensure that all elements harmonize perfectly. We have placed particular emphasis on balancing functionality and aesthetics so that the bathroom is both practical and stylish.
Technical details and functionality
In addition to the design of the rooms, we also paid a lot of attention to technical details. We helped with the placement of light connections, sockets and other technical elements so that the functionality of the rooms is optimally coordinated with the design. These small but important details ensure that the stay is comfortable and practical for all guests without disrupting the design.
A place of relaxation and harmony
Although the renovation is still in full swing, we can already say that this project will offer a unique experience. With its design concept, Jørgensen Living has set itself the goal of creating the perfect place where everyone who visits Mittenwald can feel at home – embedded in the nature and history of the place, but at the same time with modern touches that make the stay comfortable and unforgettable.
Late summer 2025 will be an exciting time for the opening of this special project. We are already looking forward to presenting the first finished apartments and the café soon and seeing how the vision unfolds in this beautiful Bavarian Alpine village.
